Becky Stewart (Massey)

Rebecca Bea Massey was born July 8, 1955, in San Angelo, Texas, to Rowland O. Stewart Sr. and Edna Anderson Stewart.  She was raised in Waco, Texas by Frank and Lindy Connelly.  She graduated from Waco High School in 1973.  She received an Associate in Science degree from Kilgore Junior College in 1975, where she was a member of Phi Theta Kappa. She graduated cum laude from Baylor University in 1981, where she received a Bachelors of Science in Journalism, English, and Business.  During her time at Baylor, she was a member of Angel Flight.

During her teaching career, she taught at New Diana High School, Union Grove High School, and for the last 15 years, she taught at Hallsville High School.  During her time at Hallsville, she coached the UIL accounting and computer applications team.  Her students qualified for the state UIL competition five times and placed in the top 10 three times. She received Hallsville High School Teacher of the Year Award for the 2010-2011 school year.

She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Hallsville, where she was involved in many ministries. Her passion in the church was teaching missions to  young girls through GA's, which she taught for 25 years.

Mrs. Becky Massey is survived by her spouse, Dr. David A. Massey Sr.; her four children, Mari Lynn Hensley, Michelle, Martha, and David Jr.; son-in-law, Jeremy Hensley; grandson, Blain Hensley; her brother, Rowland O. Stewart Jr.; sister-in-law, Belena Stewart; niece, Kaitlyn; and nephews, Justin, Joel, and Kyle.

Mrs. Massey passed away Friday, August 17, 2012, at a Longview hospital.

Memorial services were at 4 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at First Baptist Church in Hallsville, with Dr. Monty Pierce and Randy Babin, Director of Missions, officiating. Private burial will be at Hallsville Cemetery.
